Last year I tried to organize a Queer Theory and Classical Studies panel at
CAAS in October, but I received very few interested replies. I want to try
again this year, only I'm willing to consider either a panel or a workshop,
depending on what other people are interested in participating in (if there
is in fact any interest at all).
This time, I am not posting a formal call for abstracts, thinking maybe that
is part of what put people off last year. All I would like to know is if
you are interested in participating in a panel or workshop on new approaches
to ancient sexuality. If so, can you cite any specifics you would like to
see included? I would like it both to challenge established orthodoxies and
to model examples of new approaches that are informed by queer
theory-meaning things written about deviant formations of sex, gender, and
kinship since the 1990s.
The deadline for proposals is April 1. At this point I'm just trying to
gauge interest, and if there is interest, I will put together a draft
proposal for interested parties to take a look at.
Best,
Michael
