[LCC] Davidson on Verstraete's and Hubbard's reviews

I can't know, but suspect that Davidson would respond that he had 
been accused of "catering to contemporary sensibilities" and 
"creating an anachronistically sanitized and romanticized 
picture" in framing his arguments (that is, of seeing the ancient 
world through the lens of a modern agenda), so it is fair to 
consider whether his accusers themselves have an agenda in making 
what are, after all, fairly strongly-worded attacks;  which he 
apparently thinks they do.  (Please note:  I am making no 
judgement as to the rights and wrongs;  just stating what I 
presume would be Davidson's view, on the basis of what he 
writes.)
